Click here to enroll for the 2017-2018 school year!
Open enrollment, typically a three-month period in the winter, is designed to give all interested parents equal opportunity for their child to attend University Prep Schools. During open enrollment, all applications get equal consideration regardless of the date of submission (if within the allotted range). An application received at the end of open enrollment receives equal treatment as one received on the first day of open enrollment.
In order to apply to our schools, you must be a resident of the State of Michigan. Please note that kindergarten students must be five years old by October 1st.
Following the close of open enrollment, if the number of applications exceeds the number of open seats, a random selection lottery determines acceptance. If the number of applications does not exceed the number of open seats, all applicants are accepted for their respective grade. Please be sure to type in your student’s current grade. If you are interested in applying for both districts, please note you will have to complete separate applications, one for each district. Please also note that if your student is accepted at one district, they will be automatically declined by the other district.
Several of our locations have computer stations that will be available during the current school year to assist you with submitting your application.
Lotteries are open to the public and parents are encouraged to attend. The most recent lottery was held on February 5, 2014 at the University Prep Academy High School. Lotteries will be held for any grade in which the number of applications exceeds the number of openings. Names are randomly selected and applicants are accepted based on the order in which they are selected. The lottery continues until all names are drawn. Applicants who are not accepted will be placed on a waiting list in the order of their randomly selected lottery number.
Students on the wait list will continue to receive school information. Please be aware that it is not unusual for a small percentage of accepted students to select other educational options prior to the start of the school year. Openings created by “opt-outs” are filled by those on the wait list. Do not be discouraged if your child is put on a waiting list. Openings can and do become available regularly!
